The 3rd Turkish Olympiad Southeastern US was held in Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech in Atlanta Georgia by the Istanbul Center on Saturday, March 19, 2010.The winners of singing, poetry recitation, general knowledge and proficiency in Turkish Language and Writing category will represent Southern U.S. at the 8th World Turkish Olympiads in Turkey.

Istanbul Center is a unit of Global Spectrum Foundation, Inc., is a 501(c)3 non-profit, non-governmental and non-partisan organization that was established in 2002. It promotes better understanding and closer relations between individuals and communities, building bridges between the Turkish, American and other communities in Atlanta and the Southeastern United States.

Turkish as a Foreign Language for Teens (TFL-T)

Proficiency in Turkish Language Competition 

Definition: A competition where constantans are judged on their proficiency in the listening, reading, and grammar areas.

 

 

Eligibility Requirements:

Middle or high school students of ages 11-18.

Students who attended the International Turkish Olympiads in earlier years are not eligible.

 

Criteria: 

35% Listening: Multiple choice questions on a recorded passage in a familiar topic.

35% Reading: Multiple choice questions on short passages in familiar topics.

30% Grammar: Multiple choice questions in correct usage of language and main grammar rules.

 

Awards:

1st           place: $250

2nd          place: $200

3rd           place: $150
